LONDON, Ky.— Krista Reinhardt (Jr.) propelled the Bryan Lions Women’s Golf team to a eighth place finish after firing rounds of 79 (+7) and 78 (+6) at the Bill Sergent Invitational at Crooked Creek Golf Club.
Reinhardt found herself chasing Lucia Pena of University of the Cumberlands and Caitriona Griffin of Northwestern Ohio on day one after impressive rounds of 74 (+2).
“I’m encouraged by the way the tournament finished, especially my putting and my mental game,” said Reinhardt. “I look forward to the improvements I need to make and I’m excited for the girls as well to see their improvement as the season progresses.”
The first round proved tough for the Lady Lion’s after totaling a 355 (+67). The wind was a major factor in the high scoring.
Reinhardt started her second round with two three-putts in her first three holes, placing her seven shots off the lead. Pena struggled in the middle of her round after recording five consecutive bogeys to pull Reinhardt within three shots of the lead.
Tough pin placements in day two, along with steady winds increased the scoring average to 87.7 for the day.
Reinhardt steadied the ship in the middle part of her round to pull within two shots of the lead. The host school, University of the Cumberlands led the tournament with 311 (+23).
After making four consecutive bogeys to conclude her round, Reinhardt found herself six shots back of the lead. Her score of 157 (+13) was good enough to tie for third.
The University of the Cumberlands secured the title after firing a 632 (+56) to win by 15 shots over Northwestern Ohio’s 647 (+71).
Reinhardt said, “This time last year, I was unsure if I would be able to play golf again after tearing all the ligaments in my ankle. God was faithful to heal me from that injury and to give me more opportunities to become better at the game and I’m thankful that He gave me the opportunity to bring Him more glory. No matter what I do, all glory goes to Him.”
The Lady Lion’s are back in action at the AAC Fall Championship at Wasioto Winds in Pineville, Ky. on October 2-3.
