Last week, the Admissions Department worked with SGA to sponsor a naming contest for the coffee kiosk on the second floor of Mercer Hall. More than 100 students got involved in the contest and submitted 150 ideas, said Junior Male Representative Thomas Katz.

Senate chose and submitted three names to Vice President of Enrollment Management Mike Sapienza who will decide the winning submission before the grand opening.

Names under consideration are “Common Grounds,” “Koinonia Café,” and “Brewed Awakening.”

The winner of the contest will receive $30 credit to the kiosk. If multiple people submitted the same idea, they will split the prize.

According to Sapienza, the kiosk is designed to make use of all the space in the Mercer’s second floor lobby,

“We were looking to redesign the whole space and make it more inviting to students to study and hang out in during the day,” he said.

After the grand opening, students and parents will be able to buy credit on student ID cards and scan their cards to make purchases in addition to paying with cash or credit cards.

The grand opening is scheduled for early next week.
