The Bryan College Lions defeated the Point University (West Point, Ga.) Skyhawks 6-1 Thursday evening to move on to the AAC Championship Game in soccer.

Point took the early lead just two minutes into the game, but would go scoreless for the remaining 88 minutes.

Bryan scored the equalizer seven minutes later as sophomore midfielder Joel Glover found the back of the net off an assist from junior forward Daniel Branley. From there on it was all Bryan.

Forty-five minutes in Branley chipped the ball over Point’s goalkeeper off a pass from senior midfielder Alan da Costa. The goal gave the Lions the lead and Branley his NAIA-leading 10th game winner.

Glover found the back of the net in the 50th minute for an insurance goal that the Lions wound up not needing.

In the 72nd minute freshman defender Ryan Griswold found the back of the net to put the Lions up 4-1.

Less than five minutes later, Glover found the back of the net for his third, giving him a hat trick.

Griswold found the back of the net again in the 85th minute giving the Lions’ their sixth and final goal.

The Lions recorded 18 shots with eight of them on goal, while the Skyhawks had 10 shots with four of them on goal.

“We are one step closer to our goal [the championship],” said Head Coach Joey Johnson, “I’m proud of the guys.”

The Lions, who were regular-season AAC champs, will play the Cobras of Virginia Intermont College (Bristol, Va.) at home Saturday at 7 p.m. in the AAC Tournament Championship Game.
