The Student Government Association Junior Class at Bryan College hosted a prayer breakfast at 9:00 am of September 11th, 2016 to commemorate all those who fell in the 9/11 attacks 15 years ago, and in the wars that followed. Melinda Baker, president of the junior class said, “We were praying the people would come, and we had just enough for the 53 in attendance. This was definitely a blessing that the Lord ordained and provided for.”

The Class officers are a new and have been looking for a creative way to bring a spiritual element back to the SGA to make it something more than just planning events. The SGA Class is led by Baker, and comprised of administrative assistant Maggie Kanipe, Treasurer Anna Duong. The three of them prayed for weeks before the event in preparation.

Breakfast started with fruit, and muffins and donuts followed by worship with some acoustic music. In between songs, there was prayer and a moment of silence. Everyone was deeply moved by the somberness of the event, and yet when the program ended, those who attended were offered the opportunity to write in and draw on cards for our soldiers overseas, and a chance to fellowship over coffee, and leftover donuts and muffins.

Along with the attendees, the Junior Class was extremely blessed that so many people came out to support the remembrance of the tragic events of 9/11/01. Baker expressed a desire to extend her thanks to all those who came, but more importantly to a few faithful friends and staff supporters, “We are extremely thankful for Pioneer Foods Director A.J Claudill., Mrs. Trudy Oviatt, and the Office of Student Life!”
