Writer of “Sex and the iWorld” Dale Kuehne spoke during chapel and at the couch event last Wednesday.

The couch panel included Kuehne, Pastor Chad Holtz from Mountain View United Methodist and Bryan senior Ben Ross. It was hosted by Director of Worldview Formation Jason Glenn.

The discussion focused on “cultural currents.” The night started off by talking about the difference between love and intimacy, then naturally transitioned into family. Holtz emphasized that there is a lack of fathers in families and that fathers are made fun of in today’s society, giving the example of Modern Family.

The panel also hit on some of the questions and issues raised by the increasing prominence of family units in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. Students had several questions on the topic, including: How should millennials reorient our mindset of “family” when biological family structures are broken? How members of the LGBT community who are raising children factor in? Should we be educating children about alternate lifestyles early on?

Ultimately, the panel concluded that family members, and conversation about the gray areas is important.
