Last Tuesday evening the men’s JV soccer team played the Scots of Maryville (Tenn.) College in the Reserve League Tournament Championship game and lost 3-1.

The Scots took an early lead, scoring in the fourth and sixth minutes of play and putting the Lions in a bad spot, according to junior midfielder Joshua Beard.

“We possessed the ball the entire game,” he said. “It was just unfortunate that we couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net.”

The Lions came out of halftime playing hard and creating numerous opportunities for scoring but couldn’t convert them into goals, according to junior striker Sam Alvarez.

The second half saw the Scots score for a third time a few minutes into play and the Lions steal a goal with nine minutes left in the game.

“I think it all came down to the fact that we didn’t come out to play as soon as the first whistle blew [and Maryville did],” said Alvarez. “This, however, provides motivation for next year, to work hard in the off-season and not let it happen again.”
