The Bryan college basketball team hosted the St. Thomas University Bobcats from Miami Gardens, Fla., last night. The Bobcats are currently ranked 14th nationally in NAIA, and the Lions knew they were in for a tough battle if they were to record their first home win of the year.

Although their play improved over their first two games, the Lions were unable to stop the Bobcats from taking a 75-58 victory. This defeat takes the Lions record to 0-3 for the season.

The Lions started brightly and managed to score two three-point shots to take an early 6-1 lead over St. Thomas. However, bad shooting and the inability to convert free throws allowed the Bobcats to take a lead that they would hold for the remainder of the game.

The Lion shot 29.2% from the floor while the Bobcats managed 45.1% for the night, which proved to be a deciding factor in an otherwise close match. Bryan ended the game with 24 turnovers, while the Bobcats recorded 15.

Sophomore Brandon Cole led the Lions with 21 points and 14 rebounds, and Alan Holt added seven points and four rebounds.

Cole said of the performance, “I thought we played hard but struggled to hit shots tonight. I thought we did well and hopefully that performance can kickstart our season.”
