Bryan Lions quench Lee U Flames

The Bryan Lions quenched the Flames of Lee University (Cleveland, Tenn.) Wednesday evening in a 6-5 win. The team is now 17-12 for the season.

Sophomore first baseman Justin Morhardt kicked off the lead, hitting a grand slam in the first inning and adding another run in the second. The Flames scored two runs in the third, but the Lions’ also crossed the plate in the bottom of the inning. Lee added two runs in the fifth and one in the eighth to leave the Lions’ hanging on for the win.

Morhardt recorded four RBIs, one hit and one run. Sophomore second baseman Cody Rhinehart and senior shortstop Grant Zawadzki each had two hits and one run. Junior third baseman Joey Underwood had one hit and one run. Junior pinch runner John Cain and junior centerfielder Kevin Roberts each scored once.

Freshman pitcher Jared Breazeale pitched the first five innings, giving up four runs and seven hits. Sophomore pitcher Hunter Tipton threw the sixth inning where he struck out two batters. Cain pitched the seventh and eighth innings. During his time on the mound, he gave up one unearned run and one hit. Junior pitcher Kenny Knudsen pitched the final inning and gave up one hit.
