Dayton, Tenn.—The Bluefield Rams (Va.) added 43 points in the second half to defeat Bryan College 63-57 on Wednesday night.
Scoring was slow in the first half of the game with both teams shooting 27 percent from the field. The Lions gained the lead for the first time, 4:42 into the game with a score of 7-5.
Bryan gained some momentum heading into halftime by taking a 21-20 lead over Bluefield.
As the second half began, center Brice Cusick made a pair of free throws, as well as his next two baskets to give the Lions a 27-24 lead.
Fueling off recent success was guard Oteriah Lee, who led the Lions with 19 points and three rebounds. Lee was 7-17 from the field, 2-7 from behind the arc, and 3-3 from the foul line.
“We were off with our shooting for most of the night, including myself,” said Lee. “When you struggle shooting, you have to pick it up in other areas of the game such as free throws and rebounding and we failed to do that.”
Not to be outdone by the Lions, Bluefield shifted the momentum after a 9-0 run and never looked back.
Cordaris Townes and Khadier Fulcher both finished with 18 points and led the Rams scoring.
Bluefield outscored the Lions in the second half after shooting 53 percent to give them the 63-57 victory.
Lee alluded to lastly, “For us to add to our wins, we need to be improve our shooting as well as be better on rebounds.”
The Lions will travel to Point University on February 8 in search of their eighth win this season.
