Letter to the Editor: Pat Wesolowski

I am responding to the article regarding my position at Bryan College. The recruitment of homeschooled students is not a new “crusade,” rather the continuance of historical admissions.

Mrs. Sexton rightly reported “Bryan’s student body has, in the past decade, been divided into thirds from public, private and homeschool, respectively.”

Bryan employs three full time counselors who are all adequately prepared to advise homeschooled students, but who are more often at college fairs attended by public and private school students. Because homeschooled students are not part of a brick and mortar facility with staffed guidance counselors, these students are not reached as easily as public and privately schooled students. My job as a specialist is not to replace our counselors, but to enhance our office’s efforts by attending homeschool fairs, seminars and conferences, and positioning Bryan College as a resource for homeschooled families. At Bryan College we want students from all three experiences.

Additionally, we want students from a fourth experience; that of the student athlete. Our coaches and their staffs specifically market this demographic and greatly impact our recruitment efforts. Our mission of educating students (regardless of educational background) to become servants of Christ is the operational vision of the Office of Admissions.
