Registration for spring classes is right around the corner and with that comes deciding what electives to take. The communication department is offering three new classes this coming semester that provide you with a chance to become an expert in things like photojournalism, copy editing, photography and folklore.
COMM347 Photojournalism, Tuesday, Thursday 1:30-2:45 p.m. (Ecarma, Reggie)
If you have an interest in photography and creating a professional portfolio for your work, this class offers you the opportunity to put together your current and future work on a professional website. The site will include your pictures and articles on your favorite topics. Learn to write professionally and create a layout of your pictures that is captivating, organized and clear.
COMM341 Copy Editing and Publications, Tuesday, Thursday 12:00-1:15 p.m. (Ecarma, Reggie)
Want to post punchy writing, captivating posts and clearly written articles on your favorite topics? Join this class and you will confidently turn in written pieces that have impact, clarity and power. You will learn the all-important editing process, and even get to publish your articles on the Triangle!
Comm 390 Photography and Folklore, Monday 6:30-9:00 p.m. (Palmer, Michael)
This class will involve a study of communication through the twin lenses of image and narrative. The content in these two areas ranges from theory to concept to application with regard to aesthetics and meaning. Professional photographers and videographers will be guest participants as well, with some hands on experience. The treatment of image and symbol is coupled with an explored consideration of story, myth and folklore as ways to understand history, communicate the present and map the future.

Samantha Burgess is a senior communication major with an emphasis in digital media and is editor in chief for the Triangle. Her interests in writing include profiles and feature articles. Burgess can often be found curled up with a good book, writing, listening to music or watching Netflix.
