Bryan College’s cheer team started up again this year after a break. Although the team has had many ups and downs over the last couple years, it seems to really be finding its feet now.

The team has been growing rapidly. Especially exciting to students is the new hire of their head coach, Brittany Daust. Alayna Kerr, one of the more experienced leaders on the team, spoke about the team’s growth and their new coach.

“The team has grown significantly,” said Kerr. “And looking ahead to next season, our incoming roster is expected to be nearly double what it is now. This year has been a pivotal rebuilding season under the leadership of our new coach, Brittany Daust. She has worked tirelessly to recruit new talent and fundraise in order to give our program the support and foundation it needs.”

The team has their eyes set on competitions next year. They have taken the time to build the program up with the help of Coach Daust. They have seen higher levels of stability and motivation this year, and it has inspired much growth.

Cheerleading had attempted to start just four years prior. Unfortunately, it was not in the cards, and the plan would be set back. Kerr spoke about her experience with the team when she began her journey three years ago. She has seen the good and the bad, but she believes the team is at its best and can do some great things.

“As for me, I’m heading into my senior year. I came into this program with the hope of competing and making an impact. Unfortunately, when I arrived, the team had essentially disbanded, and the program was at its lowest point. Over the last four years, I’ve seen it fade in and out—at some points, it didn’t even exist. But now, for the first time in a long time, I truly believe

in the future of this team.”

Keep an eye out for the Cheerleading team as they look to keep building that program under Coach Daust. You can find them at every home game for men’s and women’s basketball.
