Softball sweeps home opener

Bryan Softball opened up their first home series of they year this past weekend. The Lady Lions won the weekend with a 2-0 sweep over the University of Pikeville (Kentucky) to bring their record to 5-6.

Bryan took the first game 8-0 in five innings with junior pitcher Sarah Hundley in the circle. Hundley (2-3),  junior center fielder Katelyn Bowen (3-3), and freshman catcher Ashley Brown (2-2) accounted for seven of the Lions’ 12 hits. Hundley pitched all five innings racking up eight strikeouts and allowing just two hits.

Bryan carried their momentum over to the second game with a 3-0 win with junior pitcher Kaitie Sims in the circle. Freshman second baseman Katelyn Heath recorded her first collegiate home-run and Brown had another multi-hit game with two of the Lions seven hits. Sims pitched seven shutout innings recording nine strikeouts and allowing three hits.

Softball looks to continue their win streak as they travel to University of Cumberlands (Williamsburg, Kentucky) starting at 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 5.
