Communication, Media & Culture majors and minors headed up Dayton mountain for their annual retreat at Fort Bluff last weekend. The departmental retreat, dubbed Commapalooza, is an opportunity for communication students to get to know their peers and professors better through team building activities and informational segments.

At Commapalooza students receive updates about the department, as well as testimonies and the sage wisdom from students who have graduated and entered the job market. This year, 2015 graduate Meredith Sexton and 2014 graduate Alex Maldonado spoke about their careers in radio and non-profit work, respectively. These successful grads reminded students that they, too, will likely make it through school with (most of) their sanity intact.

Select senior communication students were also given the opportunity to provide underclassmen with college survival tips. Seniors Bryan Alderman, Deanna Kobet and Kaite Beasley talked about how they have gotten the most out of their years at Bryan, and how new students can optimize their time in the communication department.

In keeping with tradition, the retreat ended with a bonfire, s’mores and campfire songs.
