DAYTON, Tenn. — Bryan College’s Back to Basics week started on Mon., March 1, 2021.

A booklet guide was provided for the students about the week. It included the focus of each day which is as follows: worship, study of the Bible, prayer, lamentation and service.

To begin Bryan’s Spiritual Emphasis week, at 8 p.m. Mon., Resident Life held an hour of worship in Rudd Auditorium.

Elizabeth Spencer, who led the worship night, stated, “Back to Basics started with the simple idea of having a spiritual emphasis week to bring the student body together and encourage one another to grow in Christ.”

She goes on to say that by beginning the week with worship, she hoped the student body might be able to engage and grow by being reminded of the basic beliefs of Christianity.

At 7:30 a.m and 7:30 p.m. on March 3, Bryan College hosted a prayer meeting in Latimer 303. It was hosted by Katlin Novak. Novak normally holds prayer on Wednesday morning in Latimer and every other Sunday night at 8:30 p.m.

In addition, there was a Grief and Loss Panel Thursday March 3, 7 p.m. to 8:30 pm. It was organized by the Counseling Services and located in Osborne Hall, Stophel Center.

Bryan College concluded its Back to Basics week with an Engage Service opportunity on March 5. The service opportunity lasted from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. located in Common Grounds. Students dropped off and helped make goodie bags for students in quarantine.

Kasey Kalk, who headed the week’s projects, said, “Back to Basics is a week-long initiative meant to instill spiritual practices that remind us who we are as Christ-followers in order to foster continual growth and fulfillment in Christ.”

In a time of uncertainty and stress, Bryan College’s Back to Basics week emphasized God’s love and the need for Him.

Although it will have a different name and theme in the future, Bryan College students hope to continue to have a spiritual emphasis week each year.
