Literary Contest winners and honorable mentions

Bryan’s annual Literary Contest was held on April 12, 2017 in the SGA/Student Life suite on Latimer’s third floor. There were 25 contestants and five categories to enter.

Senior Christopher Nitzband won the poetry category with his collection of poems based on older English form. Honorable mentions include senior Jubilee Lofgran, junior Emily Davidson, and sophomore Morgan Renninger.

I was thoroughly surprised that I won anything at all, because I am more of the academic type and less of the poetic type,” said Nitzband, a double major in liberal arts and philosophy and culture.  unnamed

Senior Nick Wilbanks won the short story category, followed by honorable mention junior Kate LaDue.

The winner of flash fiction was freshman Lauren Larson with her entry of “Do You Remember?” showing the effects of Alzheimer’s Disease from the point of view of a wife. Junior Annie Hollingsworth was an honorable mention.

That night was a great experience, especially since I had the opportunity to hear the amazing talent we have at this school,” said Larson, a creative writing major.

The formal essay winner was junior Lexie Wheeler and Annie Hollingsworth was an honorable mention.

Annie Hollingsworth won the creative non-fiction category, with junior Veronica Wolfe as an honorable mention.

Hollingsworth, a creative writing major, encourages students to participate next year. “The literary contest is a wonderful time and it’s a learning experience listening to everyone’s work.”

Congratulations to all the winners and honorable mentions!
