Letter to the Editor: Hear My Voice – Camille Heartfield

To My Bryan Community,

171264Since the beginning of orientation week I have been hearing the term “Bryan Community” emphasized by students and faculty alike.  Even before I started college last semester, I knew the reason I wanted to go to Bryan was specifically because it was supposed to be as much like a small, close-knit family as a school could get.  When community is mentioned here, we all sort of laugh it off as a Bryan buzzword that everyone is familiar with, but for me it was never a joke, it was the reason I was in love with Bryan College.  This is why it saddens me so much to see the community at Bryan shattered by what seems like a lack of care and understanding for the faculty and students.  Like I said, I didn’t come here because I agree with all of the faculty’s opinions, I came here because it was so evident that every one of the professors care about each other and about the students; it felt like a family.  As I’ve watched multiple professors choke back tears in class over what is happening to them, I can’t help thinking that we are not putting others before ourselves and we are not putting Christ above all.  It is my hope and prayer that we hold to Scripture’s command in Romans 12 to not only live at peace with all, but to “love one another with brotherly affection,” “outdo one another in showing honor,” and “contribute to the needs of the saints” as individual members of one body in Christ.

Sincerely,

Camille Elizabeth Heartfield
