DAYTON, Tenn.—A lot happens behind the scenes in Bryan College theatre. The theatre students have been preparing “The Case of the Crushed Petunias,” a one-act play written by American dramatist and playwright Tennessee Williams. The play features a young girl, Miss Dorothy Simple, who prefers to reside alone behind her petunias. One day, she discovers that her petunias have been mysteriously crushed. She eventually meets a stranger who teaches her the true meaning of living. This show will be performed on Wed., Feb. 3 at 4 p.m. in Rudd Auditorium.

This show was designed and directed by a Bryan College senior and theatre major, Larissa Lindley. “My goal for this project is to show the skills I have learned while attending Bryan as a theatre major.”

The cast of the play includes sophomore Dana Rice, senior Katrina Ingalls, sophomore Benjamin Gardner and junior Marcus Heil. The crew consists of Rachel Burdyshaw (costume design), Dillon Melvin (sound), Steven Powell (lighting), Emily White and Erika Holloway (advertising) and Bryan College graduate Micah Lindley (set).

This project officially began in the fall semester with a time-consuming research portion and play choice. The show has taken roughly six months to put together.

“I find this to be a great opportunity to use my talents for God,” said Lindley. “I have had the wonderful opportunity to create great friendships, work with other Christians, and create a safe environment for others to learn or take part in theatre. I have also been given the opportunity to tell a story that shows the beauty of the life God has given us and how to live for Him.”
