DAYTON, Tenn. – The Bryan Lady Lions volleyball team defeated the Chattanooga State Lady Tigers Wednesday night in a home exhibition game, winning all five of the sets played.
The game opened with a volley that led to a spike from freshman Gigi Ford, giving Bryan the first point of the night. The Lions continued into a 25-12 set one victory.
The Lady Tigers scored the first point of set two off of a linedrive serve. The Lions won the set with a score of 25-20.
After set two, Bryan student Sarah Cain believed the team had already shown a lot of improvement. “I think Coach Day has done a great job, and I really like the energy that we’re seeing from these girls,” said Cain.
Aided by blocks from freshman Anna Cain and sophomore Rebecca Camacho, Bryan started set three with a 7-0 lead and finished with a 25-8 victory.
Head Coach Jessica Day rotated her players frequently throughout the game, helping the team to conserve energy and play at a consistently high level. “I was pleased with all the rotations we worked on, and I feel confident going forward this year,” said Coach Day.
The Lions won set four when the Tigers lost a couple of their serves, the score being 25-11.
In set five, the Tigers managed an early lead of 6-5. Bryan overcame by scoring off another Tigers’ misserve, winning the set with a score of 25-19.
Chemistry between players is a key component to the Lion’s success. Freshman Anna Cain said, “It being our first game, I thought our chemistry on the court was amazing. We encouraged each other in good and bad situations.”
Sophomore Rebecca Camacho added, “We have so many passionate and talented players, it’s just a matter of coming together to put up our best performance.”
The team’s next home game, part of the Bryan Bash Tournament, will be Fri. August 30 versus Johnson & Wales University from Charleston.
