Bryan fishing team extend lead in Cabela’s School of the Year race

DAYTON, Tenn.— With two months left in the 2017 Cabela’s School of the Year race, schools from across the nation are searching for every possible point they can earn to add to their total. Bryan College claims the top spot totaling 1,942 points.

Trailing close behind is the University of North Alabama with 1,878 points.

After their recent win on Lake Hartwell, the Lions have advanced to the 2018 FLW College Fishing National Championship and brought home a $2,000 club scholarship.

“To say I’m proud of these guys is an understatement,” said Coach Michael Keen.

“They have done everything we’ve asked them to do and more. I think two things that have caused this; their hard work and the Lord has blessed them. We knew that we had to finish in the top-10 to hold onto the top spot in the running for School of the Year. Success at some point becomes a culture. We’d like for that to be our culture.”

There are still 15 sanctioned-events that qualify for Cabela’s School of the Year, which means that the title is still up for grabs. Two of those events are the Texas Collegiate Challenge, as well as the most prestigious event in college fishing, the 2017 BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship Presented by Cabela’s. Both are double point events that are sure to shake up the standings.

The current Top Ten schools are as follows:

  2.     University of North Alabama (Florence, Ala.)
  3.     University of Tennessee- Knoxville (Knoxville, Tenn.)
  4.     Mississippi State (Starkville, MS.)
  5.     University of Tennessee- Chattanooga (Chattanooga, Tenn.)
  6.     Bethel University (McKenzie, Tenn.)
  7.     Murray State (Murray, Ky.)
  8.     Calhoun Community College (Decatur, Ala.)
  9.     Tennessee Tech University (Cookeville, Tenn.)
  10.  University of Georgia (Athens, Ga.)
