DAYTON, TN. – Bryan College students danced into the weekend at the Glow in the Dark Silent Disco hosted in Osborne Hall on Friday, January 22nd at 8:00 pm. Bryan has never previously held a Silent Disco and sought to provide students with a unique and engaging experience on campus this semester

Participants were given colorful headphones with several music playlists to choose from. The three playlists consisted of different genres, such as pop, classic disco, and swing dance music.  Taco Bell, gummy treats and punch were served as refreshments for the guests, and glow sticks were distributed.

Eleanor Sanford, Coordinator of Student Engagement, desired to create a fun and casual atmosphere at the Silent Disco. Sanford said, “I hope that everyone has something fun to do on Friday night. Get out some stress, take a break from homework, and there’s always an opportunity to meet new people.” She hoped to create a relaxing break for students dealing with the pressures of the semester.

Ivey Evans, a sophomore Physical Education major and one of Sanford’s interns, loved the community atmosphere of the event. Evans stated that “The best thing about the Silent Disco is the community atmosphere we were trying to create. I think with the whole student engagement team that’s our goal for the semester: to find ways to cultivate community on campus with everyone.”

Elizabeth Spencer, a senior Christian Ministries major and Robinson RA, said that the Silent Disco offered a unique variation to events at Bryan. The music was picked with many diverse groups of students in mind. She enjoyed the unifying nature of the disco and believed it brought people together. Spencer said, “Eleanor and her interns…worked really hard to find something that’s dynamic so that it reaches everyone on campus.”
