On September 27th, Bryan College formally inducted the first group of students into the national Honors fraternity called Phi Epsilon Kappa. Phi Epsilon Kappa is an honors fraternity that focuses on kinesiology, and offers professional development, as well as networking opportunities for students enrolled in it.
Phi Epsilon Kappa is the oldest kinesiology fraternity, and was founded in 1913 in Indiana. In 1975, the National Council in charge of the fraternity unanimously agreed to extend membership to female students as well.
The chapter advisor is Professor Christopher Daniels, who serves as a liaison between the main chapter and the chapter at Bryan college. However, the chapter is also run by an executive board of students that Professor Daniels has selected.
One of the major focuses of Phi Epsilon Kappa is giving back to the community. Over the course of this semester, Phi Epsilon Kappa members have engaged in multiple community service events, such as Smooches for Pooches and Operation Uplift. “There’s many aspects that God tells us to be, and one of them is charity, y’know, helping others out, and that’s a lot of what we do. …it gives us the opportunity to go out and spread His word to others that may not have necessarily heard it, or some that need to hear it again.”
Students interested in joining Phi Epsilon Kappa should keep an eye on their mailboxes, as invites are sent out via email and physical mail. The Bryan College chapter will be hosting a second induction for new members in the spring, as well as an awards ceremony.
