The Bryan College men’s basketball team defeated Berea (Ky.) College in a close contest on Friday night, hanging on for a five-point win.

Although the Lions trailed the Mountaineers for most of the first half, they went into the break with a 44-40 lead.

After the interval Head Coach Don Rekoske sent a revitalized team back to the court, and the Lions picked up their intensity in both offense and defense. Bryan dominated large parts of the second half, and in the end sealed a comfortable win over Berea, 78-73.

Bryan’s shooting accuracy was a major factor in sealing the victory for the Lions. They shot 55.9% from the floor while Berea only managed to shoot 37.3%.

After the match Brandon Cole said, “I thought we started off slow, and our defense wasn’t playing with much energy, but in the second half we really played well and played some hard defense. I was really happy with the way we played.”

The Bryan men are now 12-10 this season and have recorded an impressive nine wins in their last 11 matches. The Lions will take on Reinhardt University (Waleska, Ga.),  at home next Saturday, Feb. 1, at 4 p.m.
