With Thanksgiving right around the corner, you’re probably already thinking about Christmas shopping. Whether you’re looking to shop on a budget yourself, or know family members who want to get the best deals, this is a college student’s guide to 2019 Black Friday deals.
Technology:
This section is geared toward those of you looking for tech essentials such as headphones to listen to music and video, a new phone or a laptop to do all your school work on.
- Apple AirPods
If you’re tired of the cords on your cheap headphones breaking or getting tangled and are looking to upgrade to a pair of sleek, easy to use Apple AirPods, here’s the best deal: Walmart is offering the original Apple Airpods for $129.99, $15 dollars cheaper than the original $144.99. While this isn’t a huge price drop, it’s more affordable than the newest Apple AirPods Pro–a staggering $249.99
2. Beats Studio3 wireless headphones
Beats fans can get the Beats Studio3 wireless over-ear noise-cancelling headphones for $279.99 at Target. This is a $70 dollar reduction from the regular price of $349.99.
3. Skullcandy Indy True wireless earbuds
If you’re not huge on brand names or are simply looking for affordable wireless, bluetooth headphones, Target also offers Skullcandy Indy True wireless earbuds for $49.99. This is a $35 dollar price drop from the original price tag of $84.99.
4. iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max
Speaking of Apple products, if you’ve been eyeing the latest iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro or iPhone 11 Pro Max, now’s your chance to get it. Best Buy is offering up to $350 in savings for Verizon, AT&T or Sprint users who trade in their old iPhone for the new iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro or iPhone 11 Pro Max.
5. Google Pixel 3 and Google Pixel 3 XL
Best Buy is also offering unlocked Google Pixel 3 and Google Pixel 3 XL at a $300 dollar price drop. You can save an additional $100 with qualified activation.
6. 13″ Silver Macbook Air
For those Apple fans looking for a Mac under $1,000, Walmart is offering the Silver 13 inch Macbook Air for $799.99, reduced from the original price of $924.99. As a Macbook Air user, I can say that this laptop is sleek, portable and easy to use. The screen resolution and battery life is great too.
7. 15″ Chromebook Touch
Walmart will also offer the 15.6” Chromebook Touch for $299.99. This is a $170 reduction from the original price tag of $469.99.
8. 40″ Roku Smart LED TV
Wish you had a TV in your dorm to watch Netflix or play video games on? Walmart is offering the onn. 40″ Roku Smart LED TV for $98.

This section is for photographers, video gamers, sports enthusiasts and students who enjoy reading for fun, not just for class.
- Nikon D3500 DSLR bundle
For ameteur and pro photographers alike, Nikon is a go to brand. Target is offering a Nikon D3500 DSLR bundle at a doorbuster price of $399.99. This offer includes the camera, a 18-55mm lens, 7a 0-300mm zoom lens and camera bag. This is a great deal as regular price for all these items is $849.99.
2. Xbox One and Playstation 4 DualShock wireless controllers
For the video game enthusiasts, Target is also offering select Xbox One and PlayStation 4 dualshock wireless controllers for $39.99, reduced from the price tag of $59.99.
3. PlayStation VR bundle
If you’re ready to tackle the world of virtual reality, Target will also have a PlayStation VR bundle on sale for $199.99. This bundle includes the playstation VR headset and 5 games which would normally cost $299.99.
4. Books
The bookworms out there who are looking to read for fun and not just for class, can head to Target on Black Friday. They will have all there books on sale: buy two, get one free.

Also, if you’re already searching for a good deal on textbooks, check out BarnesandNoble.com. They currently have new and used textbooks on sale for up to 70-80% off.
6. Name brand duffel bags and sack packs
For the athletes and sports fans out there, Academy will have all of their name brand (Nike, Adidas, etc,.) duffel bags and sack packs on sale for 30% off.
8. Name brand athletic apparel
Academy will also have all athletic footwear and fleece on sale for 40% off as well as men’s Nike fleece and crew hoodies on sale for $29.99 (Reduced from $40) and all men’s athletic collegiate hoodies on sale for $19.99 (reduced from $29.99).
Dorm room essentials:
This section features dorm room essentials ranging from towels and blankets to coffee makers to mini-fridges.
- Kristin Ess hair appliances
If you’re hoping for a new blow dryer or straightener, Target will have all Kristin Ess hair appliances on sale for 30% off of items ranging from $50-100 dollars.
2. Phillips Norelco 5100 wet and dry shaver
For the guys in need of a new and efficient high tech razor, Target has the Phillips Norelco 5100 wet and dry shaver on sale for $34.99. This is a $55 dollar price drop from the full price of $89.99.
3. Mainstays bath towels and washcloths
Want a new set of towels or washcloths for next semester? Walmart’s Mainstays both towels and 6 pack washcloths will be on sale for $1.60 each.
4. Sherpa and Chenille throw blankets
The winter months in the dorms can get pretty cold. If your looking to get cozy you can buy a threshold sherpa or chenille throw blanket for $10 (reduced from $20) at Target.
5. Keurig K-Compact Brewer
For the coffee addict who’s always on the go, Walmart will have the Keurig K-Compact Brewer on sale for $40 dollars, a $19 dollar price drop.
6. Mr. Coffee 12 cup coffee maker
If you prefer a more wallet friendly, traditional option the Mr. Coffee 12 cup coffee maker will be on sale for $9.96 at Walmart as well.
7. Whirlpool mini-fridge
Looking to splurge on a new mini-fridge? Target will have their Whirlpool 3.1-cubic-ft. mini stainless steel refrigerator reduced from $219.99 to $139.99.
8. Sunbeam microwave oven
In addition to the mini-fridge, Target also has their Sunbeam 0.9-cubic-ft. 900-watt microwave oven on sale for $49.99 ($69.99 regular price).
9. Bath and Body Works
Finally, for those of you hoping to stock up on Bath and Body Works items in your favorite scents, here are their Black Friday deals: buy 3 get 3 free on select body care, $10 off 3 wick candles, 5 hand soaps for $23.00 and 5 face masks for $10.00.
Walmart’s Black Friday deals start at 6p.m. Thanksgiving day, Nov. 28 and lasts all day Friday. Target’s offers start at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 28, until 1 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 29. Stores reopen at 7 a.m. on Black Friday. Best Buy will open at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 28. They’ll close at 1 a.m. on Black Friday, Nov. 29, and reopen at 8 a.m. Finally, Academy will open at 8a.m. that Friday.
