About 40 people showed up to the first ever Worship Jamboree on Sept. 15.

Jeff Eenigenburg, director of campus worship, said the Worship Jamboree was to connect the Worship Leadership Team and people who were interested in being on the worship team.

Eenigenburg said that he wanted to create a place where members of the Worship Leadership Team and other students could connect.“I found that sometimes the Worship Leadership Team doesn’t know all the students that are interested in helping and sometimes some of the students who are interested in helping don’t know who the Worship Leadership Team is, so without that connection being made there could be missed opportunities for both groups to work together,” said Eenigenburg.

At the Worship Jamboree all the students came together to play and sing; some of the students playing guitar would borrow their guitar out to someone so the other person would be able to play along with the next song.

The worship leadership team consists of around 10 students per semester.

“That has to do with the fact that the [Worship Leadership Team] class is designed to be a really strong intensive training for worship leadership. If it gets to be too much bigger than that, then there aren’t enough turns to take to actually get enough experiences in chapel to really foster that worship leading,” said Eenigenburg.

Junior Deanna Kobet loves a lot of things about being on the worship leadership team, such as the camaraderie aspect of it and the practical lessons she learns from Eenigenburg.

Through the Worship Leadership Team, Kobet is able to plan and facilitate worship, even though she is a Communications major, which makes it an especially appreciated and unique opportunity, she said.

The Worship Leadership Team is not exclusive to Worship Arts majors, instead it is open to anyone who wants to lead worship, has leadership abilities, and has a heart for the Lord.
