Women’s basketball braves cheerless games

Summers Gymnasium, Wednesday night, 8 pm—Basketball-time at Bryan College. The Bryan Lions men’s team is performing, supported passionately by fans who are led by the chants of Bryan College’s cheerleading squad.
Same location, two hours earlier—the girl’s team is playing. What will later be a basketball-madhouse is now a silent gym. The cheerleaders are sitting on the bleachers, watching the game.
Head Cheerleading coach, Janice Perron, successfully restarted the Bryan College cheerleading program for the 2010-2011 season and her team stepped up the support of the Bryan Lions men’s basketball team to another level. During women’s basketball games however, their support is missing.
“I’m not really sure why we don’t cheer for the girl’s games,” says Amy Newport, freshman for the Bryan College cheer squad. “I think it’s because we’re a new squad and just getting started.” Read full story »
