Softball dominates in home opener

Bryan College Lady Lions softball team dominated the Tennessee Temple University (Chattanooga, Tenn.) Lady Crusaders in a doubleheader during their home opener Monday afternoon. After three losses during the Martin Methodist College Meltdown (Pulaski, Tenn.) this weekend, the Lady Lions are now 2-3 on the season.

The Lady Lions beat the Lady Crusaders in game one 15-1 in five innings. Tennessee Temple started off the game with a run in the top of the first inning, but Bryan would tie the game in the bottom of the inning. They would go on to score six runs in the second and eight runs in the third.

Junior Heidi Daniel led with four RBIs. Daniel also recorded two hits and one run. Senior shortstop Taylor Yates led with three hits and also recorded three hits and two runs. Senior first baseman Rachel Kirby led three runs. Kirby also had two RBIs and one hit. Senior right fielder Heather Daniel, freshman catcher Becca Zimmerman and freshman Olivia Gore each scored two runs. Sophomore center fielder Katelyn Bowen, junior third baseman Nichole Capo and Senior Kirstie Jennings each had one run.

In game two the Lady Lions won 12-3 in six innings. Bryan started the game scoring five runs in the first inning. Tennessee Temple would put up two runs in the second. The Lady Lions would add three more runs to put them up 8-2 at the bottom of the third. Both teams would score one run in the fourth. The Lady Lions added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to win by nine.

Senior right fielder Heather Daniel led the Lady Lions with four RBIs. Daniel also had two hits and one run. Senior left fielder Kirstie Jennings, freshman designated player Olivia Gore, Yates and third baseman Heidi Daniel each had two runs. Kirby, senior second baseman Jill Davis and senior center fielder Katie Vaughn crossed the plate one time each.

The Lady Lions play again at home on Saturday in a doubleheader against Berea (Ky.) College. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
