The Bryan College men’s basketball team began conference play on Wednesday night for the “Pink Out” game with a 73-61 win over Virginia Intermont College (Bristol, Va.). The Lions, who came into the conference opener 0-4, played tough and consistently for the full 40 minutes of play.

The Lions have struggled shooting so far this season but turned the engines on against the Cobras and shot 45 percent from the floor and held the Cobras to only 30 percent shooting.

The energy in Summers Gymnasium was electric. The newly established BC Student Section helped the Lions toward the end of the game to pull ahead, as it was a hard-fought and close game throughout.

Head Coach Don Rekoske did approach the student section at the half and asked them to not harass the referees in order to keep the officiating balanced and fair.

Sophomore forward Brandon Cole led the Lions with 23 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Jeff Long also contributed with 20 points and six rebounds.

The Lions are now 1-0 in the AAC and 1-4 overall. The men play again at St. Andrews University (Laurinburg, N.C.) on Saturday, and tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
