Senior right fielder Tyler Latham broke the record for career home runs in the Lions’ doubleheader against the Emmanuel College Lions (Franklin Springs, Ga.) Tuesday afternoon. Winning those two games put Bryan at 33-13 for the season.

In game one, Emmanuel started the scoring with a run in the top of the third inning. In the bottom of the inning, Bryan scored two runs off a two-run home run by sophomore designated hitter Justin Morhardt. Emmanuel responded in the fourth, scoring twice. Bryan scored four runs in the bottom of that inning, then added two more runs in the sixth, including Latham’s record-breaking 28th career homer un, to win the game 8-3.

Morhardt recorded three RBIs, two hits, and one run. Junior center fielder Kevin Roberts finished the game with two RBIS, two hits, and one run. Latham had one RBI, three hits, and two runs. Junior first baseman Kelvin McMiller had one RBI and two hits. Junior third baseman Joey Underwood had one RBI, one hit, and one run. Sophomore second baseman Cody Rhinehart had one hit and one run. Senior shortstop Grant Zawadzki finished with two hits and one run. Sophomore left fielder Crandon Wallace added three hits. Freshman catcher Garrison Price had one hit. Sophomore pinch runner Brookes Jones finished with one run.

Freshman pitcher Chad Burrows started on the mound and gave up six hits and three runs during four innings of work. Junior pitcher Hunter Lamoureux pitched one and one-third innings to earn the win. Lamoureux did not give up a hit and struck out one player. Junior John Cain pitched the final one and two-thirds of the game to earn the save. Cain allowed one hit and struck out three batters.

In game two, Latham hit a home run to get Bryan on the board. The team added four more in the second inning. Emmanuel scored their only run in the third inning. Bryan’s bats warmed up and the offense scored eight runs in the fifth to win 13-1.

Latham recorded three RBIs, one hit, and two runs. Rhinehart had two RBIs, two hits, and two runs. Roberts scored one run. Sophomore catcher Justin Morhardt had one RBI. Zawadzki finished with one RBI and two runs. Sophomore designated hitter Hunter Tipton and McMiller finished with one RBI, one hit, and one run. Jones scored once. Underwood recorded one RBI, three hits, and two runs.

Freshman pitcher Jared Breazeale started on the mound and earned the win, giving up one run and striking out two batters in five innings of work. Senior pitcher Ike Meyers pitched the final two innings allowing one hit and striking out one player.

Bryan plays against Reinhardt University (Waleska, Ga.) at home Friday night. The single nine-inning game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
