Last week, the Bryan Lions Baseball Team lost their undefeated AAC conference standing after coming off one win and five losses to Reinhardt College and Tennessee Wesleyan College. The Lions now have a 4-5 record in the AAC and are 12-15 overall.
On Monday, March 15 the Bryan Lions went to Alpharetta, Ga. and faced the Reinhardt Eagles in a double-header. Reinhardt won the first game 10-8, but the Lions won the second game 4-3. The following afternoon, the teams played another game which the Lions lost 13-7.
The Lions’ next three games were against the Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs in Athens, Tenn. on March 19-20. The Lions lost 7-4, 14-7 and 13-3 consecutively.
The team needed to play a more consistent defense, according to Head Coach Taylor Hasty. They also needed to have better at-bats later in the game when they were down.
In the first game on Friday, the Lions and Bulldogs both scored once in the first inning. The Lions then took the lead during the second inning scoring three points. However, the Bulldogs turned the game around by holding their defense and scoring six runs in the third, fifth and seventh innings.
However, Hasty believes the Lions have high potential for improvement in upcoming games, so that the team will be playing their best by the end of the season and the start of the conference tournaments.
“Pablo Rodriguez, Shane Clawson, and Joseph Delrosario are continuing to swing the bat well,” said Hasty.
Senior Pablo Rodriguez led the team scoring a three-run homer in the first game and going three for four from the plate.
Junior Jonathan Davis and senior Joseph Delrosario led the second game. Both had two hits and two runs batted in the game.
Hasty said that junior Tyson Latham is continuing to pitch well and the entire pitching staff has been showing a lot of improvement over the past several weeks including in the recent games against the Bulldogs.
Hasty says he hopes for a winning streak in this season’s upcoming games against the Covenant Scots (Lookout Mtn., Ga).
The Lions’ next game takes place on campus Friday against the Covenant Scots.
