Lady Lions win doubleheader on Senior Day

The Bryan College softball team defeated the Truett-McConnell (Cleveland, Ga.) Lady Bears in a double header Saturday. The Lady Lions won the first game 3-2 and the second 7-0. The team is now 23-18 overall and 12-4 in AAC play.

The Lady Bears started off the scoring with a run in the fifth inning and added another in the top of the sixth to lead the Lady Lions 2-0. The Lady Lions, however, came back in the bottom of the sixth, scoring a three-run home run by senior right fielder Heather Daniel.

Daniel finished with three RBIs, one hit and one run. Junior designated player Heidi Daniel, freshman first baseman Olivia Gore, senior shortstop Taylor Yates and freshman catcher Becca Zimmerman each had one hit. Zimmerman and freshman pinch runner Heather Knight each crossed the plate once.

Senior pitcher Shanna Chappell started in the circle where she pitched four and one-third innings. During her time, she gave up one run and two hits. Sophomore pitcher Sarah Hundley finished the final two and two-third innings allowing one run and three hits.

In game two, the Lady Lions scored three runs in the four inning – including a solo homerun by Heidi Daniel. The Lady Lions scored two more runs in the fifth innings and another two in the sixth to win the game 7-0.

Zimmerman led with two RBIs, one hit, and one run. Heather Daniel and Heidi Daniel each had one RBI, two hits and two runs. Yates finished one RBI and two hits. Sophomore center fielder Katelyn Bowen had one RBI. Senior pinch runner and Knight each scored one run.

Sophomore pitcher Kaitie Sims pitched all seven innings. She allowed three hits and struck out six batters.

The Lady Lions play in a double header at Tennessee Temple University (Chattanooga, Tenn.) on Monday afternoon. The game is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
