Baseball wins weekend series 3-1, now 7-8 this season

The Lions completed their weekend series against the Point Park University (Pittsburgh, Pa.) Pioneers Saturday afternoon with a double header. The Lions won both games to win the series 3-1. The Lions are now 7-8 for the season.

In game one the Lions scored the first run in the third inning. By the bottom of the fifth inning, the team scored five runs. The Pioneers scored their only runs in the top of the sixth, giving the Lions a 6-2 win.

Sophomore left fielder Crandon Wallace had two RBIs and one hit. Junior center fielder Kevin Roberts had one RBI, two hits and two runs. Senior shortstop Grant Zawadzki finished with one RBI, two hits and one run. Sophomore first baseman Justin Morhardt had one RBI, one hit and one run. Sophomore second baseman Cody Rhinehart and junior third baseman Joey Underwood each had one hit and one run. Morhardt also had one RBI. Sophomore right fielder Preston King had a single hit. Senior pitcher Tristan Speak pitched the seven innings for the Lions and gave up four hits and two runs.

In game two, the Pioneers struck first scoring two runs in the fourth inning. The Lions put up one run in the bottom of the fourth and four more in the fifth. Point Park would score a run in both the sixth and seventh innings giving the Lions the 5-4 win.

Roberts led with two RBIs, one hit and one run. Zawadzki had two RBIs and one hit. King finished with one RBI and two hit. Rhinehart recorded two hits and one run. Underwood had one hit and one run. Freshman designated hitter Ethan Lents had one hit. Junior pinch runner John Cain and Morhadt each had one run. Junior pitcher Hunter Lamoureux pitched the first five innings for the Lions and gave up four hits, one earned and two runs. Senior pitcher Ike Meyers pitched the sixth inning and gave up three hits, one run, and one earned. Junior pitcher Kenny Knudsen finished on the mound and gave up two hits, one run, and one earned.

The Lions will play again at home Tuesday afternoon in a single nine-inning game against Lindsey Wilson College (Columbia, Ky.). Game time is scheduled for 4p.m.
