A letter from Livesay

Written by: President Livesay

The Lord graciously kept the rain away from our Homecoming events on Friday and Saturday and gave to us some cooler fall temperatures!

This weekend was a wonderful time of reconnecting with our alumni and friends of the college. It never gets old to hear the stories of alumni, faculty, and staff interactions through the years. It was a special treat to have the national champion soccer team and cross country teams from the 70s, our current national championship fishing team, Jake and Sandra Matthes (alumni of the year), RJ and Leslie Smith (young alumni of the year), and Pat Kinney and Judy Shetter (honorary alumni of the year) recognized at the banquet Saturday evening! Many alumni came to honor Dr. Beth Impson at a pre-retirement reception on Saturday. Thank you to PaulaKay and all of the advancement staff as well as all of our operations folks who worked so hard to make this such a special weekend. Thanks also to Pioneer as well as to many of you as faculty and staff members who likewise helped out during the weekend.

We had a wonderful Board Meeting on Thursday and Friday. Many actions were taken including renewing the trustee terms for Delana Bice, Bob Coddington, John Haynes, David Kinsey, and Ron Messer. In addition, Delana Bice was selected as Chair, Chris Cashion as Vice-Chair, and Ron Messer as Secretary/Treasurer.

The Board named Larry Puckett “Trustee Emeritus” with gratitude for his dedication and hard work as a member of the Board for 30 years. Larry Puckett thanked the Board for the opportunity to continue his long association with Bryan College with the new designation of Trustee Emeritus. He stated that he values his relationships with the Board, all his former Trustee colleagues, the administrators, staff, and faculty of the college and prays that the best years of the college lie ahead.

The Board approved the Bachelor of Science in Engineering (B.S.E.) program with initial specializations in Mechanical and Civil. In addition, the Board changed the language in Faculty-Administrative Guide, Chapter 2, VII, B, 2 (“Specific Community Standards”) to add the word “evangelical” to local church requirement.

The Board expressed appreciation for all of our faculty, staff, and administration for all their hard work and preparation that went into a successful weekend.

We are blessed to have such an engaged Board of Trustees who give of themselves in so many ways to make our college all that our Lord desires for it to be. Many Board members are Bryan alumni or parents of alumni and have a deep love for Bryan College. You are such an encouragement to them, and they are very thankful for you.

We do not have the final numbers yet for all the alumni events, but I know there was a wonderful spirit among all who attended and a great time of fellowship for all of us. Many thanks and blessings to each of you.

Stephen D. Livesay, Ph.D.
