Bryan College’s Student Government Association (SGA) is hosting a benefit concert in Rudd Auditorium on September 29 from 7:30-9:30 p.m. for students and the community to raise funds for hurricane victims.
The concert features various artists like Mount Leconte and Sarah Tipton. Leading the charge is Bailey Hufstetler, a sophomore.
Coach Dave Perron informed Hufstetler about two severely impacted families in the aftermath of the hurricanes. After presenting the idea of hosting a benefit concert in Rudd Auditorium to Tim Hostetler, SGA is now helping. Hufstetler introduced the idea to Shania Rogers, the student body president, who thought highly of it and took steps to make this benefit a success.
“Coach Perron told me about two families he was aware of because of a contact through his alma mater,” said Hufstetler. “ My first instinct was to help through one of my strong suits, community service.”A family of four children and five adults are in an apartment without electricity or water. They are seeking refuge with the aunt and are looking for new place to live.
A pastor in Texas and his family lost their residence at a church owned parsonage to one of the hurricanes. They are currently staying in the church and waiting for funds to help them get back on their feet.
The concert will raise the funds by charging $10 per adult and $7 per student. The goal set for the concert is $15,000, which is $7,500 for each family.
“The concert will have a bluegrass and country feel,” said Hufstetler. “There will be performances by Crystal Elam, Mount Leconte, Drake Taylor, Sarah Tipton, Beth and Brad Harris and many more including the worship team at Bryan College.”
After the various artists play, the worship team will lead the participants in worship reflecting and praying for all of the victims and rescue teams of both hurricanes.
