Budget cuts nick every aspect of our lives in the current economy. There is nothing different for students in their senior year studying at Bryan.

Executive SGA cut senior trip from their budget, canceling senior trip for this year. Senior SGA President Jesse Murray expects there will be no senior trip in the years to come.

Bryan College administration cut SGA budget but did not specify what programs needed to be cut. That decision rested in the hands of Executive SGA.

Executive SGA President Vincent Smith said Executive SGA cut senior trip in order to gain greater control of that week. Without any school funds, the Seniors are free to make their own plans. In the past, senior trip needed approval by the college and chaperones needed to tag along.

Last year, the school gave SGA 60,000 dollars to spend during the school year. The trimmed budget of this year is 52,000 dollars. Senior trip was financed by SGA for $12,000 dollars last year.

“Exec had to cut something, so they chose senior trip,” said Murray. However, Murray is working with the rest of the senior class SGA to provide one last hurrah for the senior class. Outside the budget of SGA and outside the affiliation of SGA, Murray said the students sitting on senior SGA are organizing a student led push to send the senior class on a cruise. They already held one meeting with their class advisor, Dr. Ken Turner. Murray said the first meeting established everyone planning the event on the same page.

“Our class has been looking forward to going on a cruise for three years,” said Murray. Senior SGA hopes to create a plan by the end of the month.
