Morgan Named New Bible Professor

In a motel room a few months ago just outside New Orleans, Louisiana, Drs. Jud Davis, Ken Turner, Matt Benson, Peter Held, Drew Randle and Paul Boling prayed for wisdom in choosing a new Biblical Studies professor at Bryan College. The professors selected two of six potential candidates to continue on in the application process.

“It really was an exciting process since each [of the six] was qualified and a good communicator,” said Vice President for Student Life Dr. Peter Held. “It was so exciting to see the quality of the people God brought to us for this position.”

After spending time with candidate Dr. David Morgan here on campus, it was obvious that he was exactly the one Bryan College was looking for, according to Academic Vice President Dr. Bradford Sample.

“He combined excellent scholarship with a great personality with a very biblical orthodoxy,” said Sample. “When you find someone like that who also wants to be as deeply involved with the student body as Dr. Morgan does, it can’t be beat.”

Morgan, a native of Texas, met his wife LeAnn in Louisville, Ky., while finishing up his degree at Southern Seminary. They have since lived in Aberdeen, Scotland, and Tampa, Fla.

“I have served in foreign church plants, and I have finished academic degrees,” said Morgan. “For the last few years I have sought to combine these two areas of ministry by preaching in the pulpit and teaching at the lectern.”

Morgan has earned four theological degrees, including a Doctorate in Old Testament and a master’s degree in Divinity, as well as two other degrees in the Old and New Testaments, according to Sample. “It is obvious that Morgan is well-versed in the entire Bible,” said Sample.

“David will add a new dimension to what we are doing that we are deficient in presently,” said Associate Professor of Bible Dr. Ken Turner. “He adds the ability to do language, theology, missions, a personal heart for the students; a mix like that is hard to find, and he has it.”

“By an act of providence, Dr. Davis sent me an email asking if I might be interested in applying to the Biblical Studies position,” said Morgan, “I am deeply humbled that they have decided to bring me on to the faculty at Bryan College.”

“We were initially looking for someone a bit different, but Morgan was so good we hired him instead,” said Associate Professor of Greek Dr. Jud Davis. “Morgan is so gifted by God, and yet he is very practical.”

Morgan’s wife, LeAnn, is currently finishing her nursing degree and is very excited to get to know and mentor the young women of Bryan College.

“I enjoy the challenge of taking ancient language, culture and texts and making them understandable and impacting to a person that simply wants to know what God is like and how to live a life pleasing to Him,” said Morgan.

Morgan, his wife LeAnn, and their dog will be joining us in the Fall. He will be teaching three classes in the Fall semester and four classes in the Spring semester. Morgan will teach theology, as well as some required entry-level Bible classes.
