From spoken word poetry to foot frisbee, Bryan’s freshman class is a hotbed of talent. The annual freshman talent show gives students a chance to see what their peers are made of — or to show off a little bit themselves.

About 100 people gathered in Rudd Auditorium Sunday night to cheer on this year’s freshmen as they competed for the title of “Most Talented Individual” or “Most Talented Group.” First place came complete with bragging rights.

In the running for “Most Talented Individual” were Christopher Nitzband, who recited his own poem, Kaylee Cogan, who performed a version of “The Cup Song” to “Royals” by Lorde, Camille Heartfield, who threw a frisbee across stage using only her toes, Christine Kent, who performed her own spoken word poetry and Ellen Shiraef, who performed “Be Thou My Vision” on her harp.

First place for “Most Talented Individual” was awarded to Shiraef.

Cogan came in second place for “Most Talented Individual.”

Several groups decided to try for the “Most Talented Group” prize, including Kevin Smythe, Jubilee Lofgren, Stephen Powell and Cogan, who performed a swing dance routine to “Footloose”; Stewart Wreyford, Stephen Powell, Aaron Pendergrass, Brandon Lawrence and Everett Sell, who performed “Misty Mountains” from “The Hobbit”; Kimberly Meadors and Katie Duong, who performed “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen; Hannah Eckert and Samantha Stahl, who performed “When You Believe” by Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston; and Lawrence, Rachel Liebert and Pendergrass, who performed “Without You” by Ben Rector.

Wreyford, Lofgren, Powell and Cogan won first place for “Most Talented Group.”

Meadors and Duong came in second.

Senior Caroline LaPlue and Junior Drew Morrison emceed the event.
