Google Wave is Google’s attempt to completely rethink the way people communicate online with one another. Some are already saying that this is the next evolution of email.

Wave was created by the two guys behind Google Maps, Lars and Jens Rusmossen, with a small team based out of Sydney, Australia. The concept behind Wave is to completely “unify” communication on the web. What it is, literally, is a hybrid mix of web chat, instant messaging, email and project management software.

One of the more unique features of Wave is that it makes possible for users to replay whole conversations because it records the entire sequence of character-input, letter by letter. That’s not all though. Because of the recording, the conversations are live, meaning that the user will be able to see whatever their friend is writing, letter by letter.

However, that is just one of the features that Google Wave boasts. Wave makes it possible for users to drag attachments directly from their desktop and drop them into Google Wave. Once dropped into the conversation, Wave uploads the file and sends it immediately to the person with whom you are having a conversation with.

The way the page is designed is very much like that of G-mail, except for the blank screen to the right, which is the open workspace for a new “Wave”.

The chatting and messaging is unlike anything that we’ve ever dealt with before because of the open forum-style live editing. So, when a user wants to chat with someone who is online they just send them a “Wave” and the user’s friend can reply anywhere on that “Wave.” Communication within Google Wave is completely shared and in real time.

The keys to making Google Wave successful and innovative are making it easy to access and increasing the speed with which individuals are able to communicate with one another online.
