Freshmen class student government election speeches were given Sept. 12. Six students ran for the position of class president.

Here are some speech highlights:

Gunner Barnett:

“Iron [sharpens] iron. When I came here, my intention was not to come for a liberal arts degree, but I believe God has a calling on each of us.

“I want to prepare you for what God has planned for you. The president is going to be sacrificing their time to serve you.”

Amy Buchmeyer:

“I hadn’t thought much about running for president, but being one of those people, I decided to go to the SGA interest meeting.

“My siblings might tell you I’m bossy, but I prefer the term instructive. I mean what I say, and I will strive to always have your best interest at heart.”

Nathan Harris:

“I’m an outgoing, friendly person, but in all honesty, I love my Lord and Savior. Jesus said to lead is to serve.”

James “Jimmy” Hostetter:

“I see the heart that [the people in SGA] have, and I would love to be a part of that ministry.”

Eli McGowan:

“I picked Bryan because of the motto, and I love how everyone is so diverse here. We’re all here because of the shared interest in Christ.

“If you’re concerned about my abilities and background, talk to me. I love people. My favorite activity is to find different lunch tables, to meet the people sitting at them. Dude, people is my caffeine.”

Micah Warner:

“My brother is in SGA, and I have leadership experience in Generation Joshua.”

The election results will be revealed Friday Sept. 16.
