Season three of AMC’s hit TV show premiered two weeks ago with record-setting numbers. The dynamic characters, zombie hordes and promise of a new season summoned 10.9 million viewers to tune in on Sunday, making it the most viewed episode in the series and the largest telecast episode in basic cable history. This is one more milestone in the acclaimed graphic novel adaption that began with 5.4 million viewers, and saw a steady rise through season two with a premiere of 7.3 million and a finale of 9 million.
The world as we know it has turned into a zombie playground courtesy of a mysterious disease that leaves its victims with an incurable hunger for living flesh. The story centers on a motley group of survivors led by former Deputy Sheriff Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln). Among the survivors are Rick’s wife Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies), young son Carl (Chandler Riggs) and best friend and former colleague Shane Walsh (Jon Bernthal).
