Bryan has witnessed considerable change over the course of the summer. Around every corner, students are sure to find something new and exciting happening on the hill. Amid the many adjustments, this school year has seen three new resident directors welcomed into the Bryan family: Kim Tuttle from Robinson Dorm, Beth Hale from Arnold and Jon Slater who is now in Woodlee-Ewing.

KIM TUTTLE

Kim Tuttle, a native of central Florida and long-time Bryan staff member, has moved into Robinson as resident director. Tuttle holds a B.A. in Christian Education and an M.S. in Management from Liberty University. An ’84 Bryan grad, Tuttle is a part of three generations of Bryan students, including her mother and her two sons, Chris and Nick.

A few of her favorite pastimes include watching football, going out with friends and interior decorating. She is sassy, fun and admittedly a Trekkie. Among other things, she is a mentor and good friend to many Bryan students.

“I am looking forward to card games, movies, crying and laughing together, encouraging and challenging each other and promoting Bryan College,” said Tuttle.

Also, she is planning to host the Harvest Bash again this year in Robinson. In the past, this campus wide event has allowed students to enjoy everything from hall activities and games to pumpkin carving contests and refreshments. Tuttle said that she is excited to host the event this year and welcomes the whole Bryan community over to celebrate the fall season with the women of Robinson.

Arnold RD Beth Hale grew up in snowy Brooklyn, Mich. After high school, she moved to Huntington, Ind. where she studied Instrumental Music Education at Huntington University. Hale served as an RA for three years and an RD for two years after graduation. She has an M.A. in Student Development and Higher Education from Taylor University, Upland, Ind.

Hale loves the snow and confesses that she will miss the white Michigan winters. She enjoys long-distance running and competed in a half marathon a little over a year ago. On two truly fascinating notes, Hale has taken piano lessons from a Japanese nun, and she also performed in two Italian operas while in the fourth grade. She is artistic and loves most things creative: namely music, crafts and baking.

Concerning her future as Arnold’s RD, Hale spoke of the individual journeys that all members of a campus community are on. She suggested that each of these unique journeys cross paths, leaving the community with something quite extraordinary in common, in this case Bryan College.

“At those intersections, a great community can be made – I am most excited about joining that community,” Hale said.

JON SLATER

“Don’t tell Matt Williams, but I’m pretty sure we have the best guy’s dorm on campus,” jests Jon Slater, the new resident director of Woodlee-Ewing.

Slater is originally from Eagle Grove, an average sized farming town in Iowa. Growing up, Slater enjoyed the same things that most boys do: sports, video games and fireworks. He majored in Business at Northwestern College, Orange City, Iowa. Slater went on to intern in Memphis and eventually moved to South Carolina where he and his wife, Rebekah, were married a year later. Shortly after, he began seminary at Columbia (S.C) International University where he graduated last May.

Slater is a self-proclaimed “sports fanatic.” He supports the Cincinnati Reds and the Dallas Cowboys. Though he is ready for some first-rate competition here on the hill, Slater admits that he does hold collegiate allegiance to Iowa State athletics as well. Outside of the sporting world, he enjoys country music, ping-pong and European milk chocolate.

Slater has expressed great enthusiasm over his new position as RD of Woodlee-Ewing.

“I’m impressed with the maturity of a lot of the guys I’ve met, and I can’t wait to see how the Lord uses me to help their growth spiritually and in all areas of life,” said Slater.

He also has some great plans for the men of Woodlee this year. One event he says he is excited to announce is the Woodlee-Ewing Fantasy Football Pro Pick’em Game. Residents of Woodlee, along with the Slaters, will attempt to accurately pick the winning NFL teams each week during the season.

For more information on that or if you’re just looking for some good conversation over a Red’s game, Slater said he welcomes any of the guys over to Woodlee-Ewing for a visit.
