Practical Christian Involvement (PCI), is the coordination of different student service organizations within Bryan College. This series, beginning with the Nov. 16 minutes, will detail what goes on within PCI and the progress that the different organizations within it have made.

Every Monday, the leaders of each PCI initiative meet to discuss their weekly progress in their different groups.  Eric McEachron, the director of PCI, organizes the meetings along with PCI Coordinator Chesney Brakhage and Service Outreach Events Coordinator Mariah Goodwin. They come up with creative prompts and exercises for the group leaders that involve everyone while still accomplishing the educational and organizational goals of PCI.

This week’s meeting began with the whole group brainstorming all the different specific groups of people at Bryan, for example: sports teams, academic majors, and organizations (such as the Worldview team).  McEachron then asked the PCI leaders what student groups listed were reached by the PCI initiatives.  Each leader used a colored marker to indicate every section of the Bryan population that had been involved with their initiative.  Once the board was covered in color, Eric told the group that he was “more energized about PCI than ever”  because of how wide the reach of the initiatives has been this year as well as the increase in the number of active initiatives.

Afterward, each leader voiced an accomplishment of their initiative from the previous week.  Jessie Mullenax from Rhea of Sunshine shared an uplifting story about the senior citizens lighting up at the sight of the new volunteers this week.  Luis Pavon of Lion’s Academy expressed his hope that the few kids opening up in the Academy would encourage others to do so as well.

McEachron mentioned the new CLF class, Ministry Service Practicum, created with PCI.  This class is designed to allow students to engage in community service who could not before because of conflicting schedules.  The class technically meets during the 11-12 hour to do service, but other time slots could possibly be worked out with initiative leaders.

The final matter of business was the mention of the upcoming PCI service day on March 30.  Each initiative will have of event for students to serve with on that day.

McEachron ended by asking what exactly they are thankful that God has given them this semester, and each leader thanked God for one of the gifts he had given them this semester.  In the spirit of the season, the theme of friends and family was throughout the answers.  With this reflection in mind, the leaders went their separate ways to continue their week and serve God with the service of their respective PCI initiatives. The
