Homecoming week kicked off on Friday, Oct. 4, with the annual Homecoming Hangout. Students came out to the Triangle for live music, free food and the announcing of the 2013 Homecoming Court.

After a few intense rounds of cornhole, students gathered around the stage to hear the 20 students who the student body nominated to Homecoming Court.

This year’s homecoming representatives are: freshmen Kayla Jager, Kim Meadors, Stewart Wreyford and Stephen Powell, sophomores Ashley Hudson, Lauren Keck, Jared Kelly and Drew Morrison, and juniors Jessalyn Pierce, Rachel Garnett, Jonathan Creasy and Nathan Harris.

Seniors Kate-Marie Parks, Katie Smith, Chloe Pool and Caroline LaPlue are in the running for homecoming queen, while seniors Wesley Garnett, Luke Fox, Joseph Murphy and Drew Byers are in the running for homecoming king. Voting began Oct. 7.

As an extra incentive, students who attended Homecoming Hangout had their choice of apple or pumpkin pie served alongside an ice cream bar by SGA.

Live music performed by sophomore Alex Damasca was also a big hit.

Freshman Kaylee Cogan said she “couldn’t get enough of his fantastic voice.”
