Allergies are in the air

According to the American College of Allergies, Asthma and Immunology more than 50 million Americans suffer with allergies. The pollen counts that cause the suffering are on the rise. Unfortunately, this means sneezing, coughing and headaches.

There are ways to combat pollen allergies, some of which are contrary to what you might expect. Some of these treatments are actually just common sense, such as avoid your allergens. Commercials for allergy medicines are everywhere; though there is no ‘one size fits all’ for these treatments. Even so, do not wait until your system gets bad to start treating allergies. If you know you suffer from allergies or believe you are starting to, take preventative measures and take medicine.

Some tree fruits, like apples and pears, can actually trigger reactions in some people, perpetuating the aggravating symptoms. Cooking or peeling these fruits can lessen the symptoms, though if your allergies are severe, it would be best to avoid them altogether.

Dehumidifiers, vacuuming, dusting and washing sheets regularly are also ways to relieve the symptoms of seasonal allergies.

As weird as it seems, check your weather app often. Most weather apps will tell you the pollen index, how bad it is and if you should stay indoors. Just being conscientious of your allergy triggers and taking preventative measure will help you breathe through this season.
