Christmas concert offers musical variety

The sounds of voices, bells and  a variety of other instruments filled Bryan College’s Rudd Auditorium on the evenings of Dec. 11 and 12.  Both nights Bryan’s Music Department presented “Christmas on the Hill,” a Christmas concert that showcased a medley of different musical pieces by both on- and off-campus performers.

The two off-campus groups that appeared were the Bryan Community Children’s Choir, which performed at Bryan for the first time, and the Metropolitan Bells, a group that has performed in previous Christmas concerts at Bryan.

Surreal win for Lady Lions

The Bryan College Lady Lion’s basketball team rebounded from an 18-point halftime deficit to beat Tennessee Wesleyan College (Athens) at the Dec. 5 home game.

During the first half, the team did not play strong like they practiced, according to Head Coach Jamy Bechler.

“We allowed the other team to get shots instead of staying in control,” said junior small-forward Jessica Southern.

At the end of the first half, Wesleyan nearly doubled the lion’s score 23-41. Read full story »

Men’s basketball fights for win

The Bryan Lion’s men’s basketball team scored a hard-earned victory in overtime against the Tennessee Wesleyan (Athens) Bulldogs at the Dec. 5 home game.

The Lions lost a six point lead during the last minutes of the second half allowing the Bulldogs to tie them 74-74 and bringing the game into overtime.

“The team lacked defensive intensity,” said Head Coach Don Rekoske, “they were not taking care of the ball.”

During overtime, however, the Lions retook the lead and beat the Bulldogs 84-82. Read full story »

Google Wave is Google’s attempt to completely rethink the way people communicate online with one another. Some are already saying that this is the next evolution of email.

Wave was created by the two guys behind Google Maps, Lars and Jens Rusmossen, with a small team based out of Sydney, Australia. The concept behind Wave is to completely “unify” communication on the web. What it is, literally, is a hybrid mix of web chat, instant messaging, email and project management software.

One of the more unique features of Wave is that it makes possible for users to replay whole conversations because it records the entire sequence of character-input, letter by letter. That’s not all though. Because of the recording, the conversations are live, meaning that the user will be able to see whatever their friend is writing, letter by letter. Read full story »
